Founder Rodney James is a graduate of Oklahoma State University. Immediately out of college he worked as a director of marketing and pilot for an executive jet charter company in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
After two years God placed a call on Rodney’s life to serve in full-time ministry. He transitioned into this new opportunity at Sequoyah Hills Baptist Church in Tulsa. He served as Worship and Executive Pastor for seven and half years, then transitioned to Lead Pastor and served for another eleven years. During this time, Rodney was blessed to lead the church through 3 major renovation and expansion projects. He drew from his experience of working with his father from age 8 until his freshman year of college where they tackled all kinds of building projects from boat docks to the first indoor showroom in Oklahoma for recreational vehicles.
During the third project at the church, Rodney hired a building company to assist with a very complicated scope of work. This led to a relationship that a year and a half later became Rodney’s next transition. Rodney joined this design/build firm to work with pastors and churches across the nation leading them through the journey of all types of construction projects. Rodney was able to draw on his experience in business, ministry, and construction to help churches walk through the entire process. He applied his passion to serve the Lord, by helping pastors cast vision, clearly understand the process of design and construction, and connecting them with other partners who could assist them on the path toward a successful project. The processes that he developed allowed the firm to complete every project they designed and constructed to be completed under budget for 5 consecutive years.
In mid-2018, God gave Rodney a clear vision for a new organization that could better serve churches, pastors, the community, and the Kingdom of God. As this vision solidified in Rodney’s heart, the time came for God to open the door for the next transition which would be the largest step of faith he had encountered in life. Based on the confirmation from God’s Word in a miraculous series of events from Isaiah 43:18-19, Rodney followed God’s leading and Master’s Plan Church Design & Construction was birthed.
With renewed passion to serve churches with this God-given vision, Rodney has surrounded himself with others who have a passion to serve and provide churches the safest most economical way to design and build ministry facilities. Every team member believes in this vision, our core values, and our mission. We are committed to changing the all too common over designed, over budget projects and to deliver an on-time, on-budget project that is perfectly designed to meet the needs of the ministry.
Our Core Values
What Makes Master’s Plan Church Design & Construction Unique
We've walked in your shoes.
Rodney served on ministry staff for 20 years allowing him a unique perspective when it comes to leading your church through the design and construction process. By applying his experience in ministry and construction, he is well equipped to lead and guide your pastor and building team through this very complex journey.
During the design process, Master's Plan ensures that your facility will function well for the specific way your church does ministry. This is critical to church facility design, that if missed, you begin day one with a new facility that does not facilitate your ministry. Far too many church facilities are designed to meet architectural requirements, but not ministry requirements. The ministry approach to design is looking at your project through an entirely different set of parameters.
Finish Under Budget
Our process has allowed our team to complete every project we designed and built under budget for the past 5 years and counting. This process provides a safe way for pastors to know that they can complete their project without having to find additional funding at the last minute.
Design To Budget
Accurate, realistic construction costing throughout design process is the only way to ensure that a project can be designed within the budgetary parameters. Statistics tell us that 82% of projects are designed beyond budget limitations. It is impossible to reduce cost of the project after design, so designing within the budget is the only way to ensure the project can be completed at or under budget. We have developed a very refined process that allows our team to remain within the budgetary parameters.
